Wade Downey

 

WADE M. DOWNEY is a founding partner of Downey, Smith & Fier a State & Local Tax consulting firm in Lakewood, CA. Wade has over 25+ years of state tax experience assisting both public and private companies to resolve state sales and use tax controversies, implement tax planning strategies and compliance improvements, and recover overpaid sales and use taxes. Wade routinely represents clients during audits involving State Computer Audit Specialists and electronic data (most recently CA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WA).

He understands and manages audit data requests to minimize client risks, identifies required or beneficial data refinements, develops sampling methodologies, including implementation of statistical and non-statistical approach with or without stratification with an emphasis and focus on sampling efficiency which reduces audit management costs and unfavorable results. Mr. Downey previously worked as a Senior Manager in Deloitte’s Los Angeles Multistate Tax Services group and while there he developed and instructed national training on the use of statistical sampling in state audits. Mr. Downey started his career as Revenue Auditor for the CA Department of Tax and Fee Administration (formerly known as the Board of Equalization). Wade received a BS in Accounting from California State University Dominguez Hills and a Masters in Business Taxation from the University of Southern California.
